Karkosa | Sheffield | Single Review

For anyone out there that likes a cheeky bit of Catfish and the Bottlemen, Royal Blood or The Amazons I can highly recommend the five-piece British Indie Rock band Karkosa.

Their single Sheffield, which features as one of their main recorded songs for 2017, is a song that although may begin with a soft, slow rhythm and melody, will leave you feeling hyped. Formed originally by brothers Michael and Jack Warnock, the band give out sound waves that build tempo but also tension and it is in lead guitarist, Tom Rushton’s solo that the song hits its musical pinnacle. According to BBC Introducing radio DJ, Steve Kelly, the solo was "up there with Hotel California" as a skilled, exceptional riff and this isn’t just for Sheffield but a signature solo seems to feature in a majority of their singles, and they all sound so good!

Although the band are from Birmingham, this song certainly appeals to all the Yorkshire lads and lasses out there with its rough edge and raw guitar solo its lyrics take us through the story of Yorkshire love found in Sheffield. This band are certainly ones to watch emerging through the Indie Rock scene and in 2018 they will be heading out on their very own English tour and of course one of the stops is Sheffield!

In the meantime, seriously check out their other singles on Spotify, iTunes, Apple music and Amazon. If ‘Sheffield’ is your kind of sound, then I highly recommend Where the River Flows and Monarchy.
