Violet
Contours are an indie pop quartet from York, the band released their debut single Electric
Bodies at the start of 2017, and have been gigging throughout the year,
later followed by their second single D.O.T.
The band kicked off 2018 with their
third release Hold on and have said
they’re going to step up their game even further and make this their year.
One of the things that I associate with Violet Contours is the loopy
picking of the two guitars. In previous releases, their songs are more upbeat, Hold On has
managed to achieve this picky upbeat feel whilst simultaneously being a mellow track full of
emotion.
Front man Henderson’s voice appears more powerful
than ever on this new track, going hand in hand with the build-up created by
the instruments, his voice never fails to deliver on the mood Violet Contours
are creating. Hold On really shows the development of the band over the past year. This is
not to say Electric Bodies is lessened in any way by their new song, but the
quality of the recording itself has improved, and their song writing has developed.
Violet Contours are pushing their boundaries with their latest release, straying
away from the upbeat indie pop they're created a song that is full of climatic builds and smooth releases, they've somehow achieved a song that keeps you on edge and sends you into a mellow daze at the same time.
Hold On is full of a rawness that pulls at your heart strings. They've got their first headline gig at The Basement in York on the 24th March with support from Part Time Miserables and Silvertones, get down because this is a strong line up and not one to miss!
