Carnation are a
Manchester based trio made up of vocalist and bassist Saul Parker-Backhouse (lead vocalist &
bassist), guitarist Cameron Nolan and Oscar Magini on
drums. They released Fatal Attraction in November and have been smashing out
gigs since then. These guys are a band I’ve heard nothing but good things
about, and based on this and the quality of their recorded tracks I can’t wait
till I get to see them live myself!
Fatal Attraction is a bold song, it hooks you
in with its mix of indie pop and rock, but, there is a dark underlining
eerieness. This is within the lyrics, which revolve around the sinful topic of
lust. But it’s not just the lyrics that create this almost eerie feel, it’s in
the layering of the instrumentation. Whilst the bass is producing an upbeat
almost pop like bassline, the guitar is engrossing you in a luring spell of
darkness and all things sinful.
The track is completely gripping, it’s full
of variation. Often songs can be repetitive to the point of pressing ‘skip’
part way through, but Fatal Attraction will dig it’s claws into you and won’t
let go until that very last note. This Manchester band is bringing something
new to the table, it’s an outstanding single. They'll be supporting Carnival Club at The Bread Shed in Manchester on 17th March. Carnation are 100% one to keep your eye on in 2018.
