Bleeding Knees Club, a Sydney based surf rock foursome, have
just announced a new album Fade The Hammer. The album promises eleven
songs of “pummelling garage-rock, nervy punk and candy-coated shoegaze”. Fade
The Hammer is due to be released on 5th October on Inertia Music.
Bleeding Knees Club have been one of my favourite bands since I was 17 years old, a huge part of my musical journey that's got me to the point I'm at now, I couldn't be more stoked for their new album. I'll be interviewing the band during their UK tour on their Manchester date.
Kitchen is like nothing I’ve previously heard from
Bleeding Knees Club, it’s still got that distinctive sound of aussie thrash but
in a new way that’s completely unique. It’s this unexpected melodic and
romantic instrumentation. Wall’s vocals are softer than usual, but still have
that gritty edge that contrast against the music in a way that wouldn’t
normally work; but for Kitchen, actually works perfectly to create this dreamy surfy
shoe gaze sound. The song features vocals from Sophie McComish of Sydney
shredders Body Type. It may be winter in Australia right now, but Kitchen is the perfect chilled out summer tune to lay in the sun in a daze.
Alex: "One time I was drinking that boxed wine with the
spaghetti on the label. And I remember spilling it everywhere in the kitchen,
and then falling asleep in this girl's bed with a Smiths CD stuck on loop for
hours. I'll never forget that night."
Since the band reformed with it’s new members they’ve
released their EP ‘Case’ that followed their single ‘Chew The Gum’. Both of which
proved that Bleeding Knees Club are back and better than ever. Founding member
Alex Wall has taken to guitar this time round and is proving to be a rad
frontman. I’m looking forward to what the bands new formation will allow them
to achieve in an album, their previous albums (Virginity, Teenage Girls, Nothing To Do) were already incredible,
so seeing what they’ll do with a full band is an exciting prospect.
Alex: "It's the most fun I've ever had in a group", he
says. "And you know, we really are a gang of misfits - I was born in
California and moved to Australia as an infant. Nick comes from the far NSW
north coast, while Mikey and Gio grew up in Sydney's rough western suburbs. But
when we play together it's like nothing else matters, and it's us against the
world".
